The Honeymoon

One of the first things most newlyweds experience is their honeymoon so I thought I would start off blogging about our honeymoon and my reflections. Mr. Stilettos and I pulled an all nighter the night of our wedding and headed straight for the airport at 4:30 in the morning. Was this probably the best idea?? Probably not, but now those 36 hours are one of my favorite memories. Looking back from the time we jetted off to the time we landed I can do nothing but smile. It doesn’t matter if I ended up tossing my cookies on the 12 passenger plane to paradise or that it was 87 degrees at all times in our little beach bungalow…at the time we were quite frazzled but looking back we wouldn’t have changed a thing.

I always thought that the honeymoon was just another vacation – Mr. Stilettos and I have traveled a lot together in our six years of dating. I just thought this vacation would be more enjoyable now that all of the wedding planning craze was over! I soon realized this wasn’t the case at all. The honeymoon was really so much more for us emotionally. We went from the wedding straight to paradise and we were forced to communicate and learn to live together. Obviously, it is much easier to get a long when you are in paradise, but I felt like it was rehab for our wedding bliss relationship. It is so easy to get lost in the stress of the wedding and the honeymoon really forced us to fall back to what was really important – the reason why we agreed that I would wear newlywed stilettos in the first place! Now, don’t get me wrong! I don’t believe that if you go without a honeymoon your marriage is doomed! Every couple is different! I just believe that our trip was exactly what we needed for our relationship.
